Real Women, Really Cool Jobs
The “Women with Cool Jobs” Podcast started because I (Julie Berman) have always been really curious about the work that people do — not just in knowing the basics like your title, at ABC company, in XYZ industry — but in going DEEP.
I want to know the nitty, gritty details and hear the stories of these incredible, inspiring women!
We chat about so much in these conversations, like:
What are the best, most fulfilling and fun parts of your job?
What are the tough parts and the challenges?
How did you get in this field?
Did you even know it existed before?
What's a day in the life or a week in a life like?
What are some lessons you learned along the way?
What responsibilities do you have?
If someone wants to do this, too, what resources or advice can you share with them?
The cool (and ironic) thing about all this is that I ended up creating my OWN cool job all because I'm interested in women and THEIR cool jobs. Crazy how things happen, right?! And 4 years later… (I started the process in Feb. 2020), I can't imagine not doing it. I love it so much. = )
Latest WWCJ Guest: Dr. Rosa Vasquez Espinoza
Ever heard of stingless bees? They are real and exist in the jungles of the Peruvian Amazon!!
You can learn about them from the incredible Dr. Rosa Vasquez Espinoza, who is a Peruvian chemical biologist, conservationist, and National Geographic Explorer. Dr. Rosa combines science and storytelling to share the fascinating conservation work she is doing in the Amazon Rainforest.
Dr. Rosa founded the nonprofit Amazon Research Internacional and is currently studying stingless bees -- leading the first chemical characterization of Amazonian stingless bees and medicinal honey in Peru. Her work takes her from working with native experts deep in the Amazon forests, to collaborating with some of the best minds in science, to sharing on social media what a scientist looks like -- with cute earrings, a love for native infused fashion, and a love of dance.

Did you know…? Women in the Trades Need Better Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Like many things, personal protective equipment (PPE) was originally created and made for men. So, with more women going into the trades and other industries that require PPE, it's critical that women have protective gear and clothing that fit their bodies and needs.
Emily Soloby is on a mission to advocate for and support women — physically with her safety boot company, Juno Jones, and in general — by normalizing the idea of women in nontraditional fields. From a high schooler known for her boots to now creating her own footwear company, Emily's varied career path has always included helping women.
Per the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OHSA), “Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. These injuries and illnesses may result from contact with chemical, radiological, physical, electrical, mechanical, or other workplace hazards. Personal protective equipment may include items such as gloves, safety glasses and shoes, earplugs or muffs, hard hats, respirators, or coveralls, vests and full body suits.”
While growing a small truck and heavy equipment safety training firm into a national business with her husband, she noticed that there was no women's safety boots, especially ones that she'd actually want to wear. In 2020, the Kickstarter campaign for Juno Jones was fully funded in only 29 hours, and she began her mission to pair safety with style.
