It's Summer Break -- Tag You're It!

Plus, Use Your Voice — Whether Confident, Shaky, Loud or Otherwise!!

Real Women, Really Cool Jobs

TAG, YOU’RE IT!!

When I went to pick up my preschooler on the last day of school, his super creative teacher had “TAG, YOU’RE IT!!” on her custom-made t-shirt. I thought it was hysterical. She was saying to all the parents picking up their kids, “Your turn!! I’m out!” 😀 Haha. Preschool teachers are so clever.

If you’re a mama, are your kids out on summer break yet? Mine are going on their second week.

Because it's been CRAY-zy (and fun!) around here, I didn't get to send out my solo episode that I am really proud of. It’s about how you already have a no, but you COULD have a YES!! You can check it out a few sections below and learn about why I love living by this phrase so much. (It’s a game-changer.)

CURRENT WWCJ GUEST: Jam Gamble

Jam Gamble believes in YOUR voice and in your ability to speak — whether your voice is confident, shaky, loud or otherwise!!

I took her awesome program this past Spring and learned so much. Most importantly, I learned how to trust my voice more than I ever have. (To be honest and transparent, for me it’s a journey, not a destination.)

Jam (the Chief Mic Slayer) is a gifted educator who is a renowned motivational speaker, media personality, and a dedicated public-speaking coach. Her approach to speaking is simple and achievable for anyone who wants to rediscover their voice and use it confidently.

In this episode (that was so much fun to record!!), we talk about:

⭐️ The importance of trust

⭐️ Her VERY strong views on storytelling (talk about a reframe here!!)

⭐️ How to practice using your voice in your every-day life

⭐️ How you can create the most powerful moments and be excited to use your voice

Learn all about Jam’s cool job and how you can get more comfortable using your voice by listening to the most recent episode of “Women with Cool Jobs!”

AN OLYMPIC FIRST

Did you know…? Women (and Families) Will Have Access to an Olympic Village Nursery for Paris 2024

When I first saw that athletes competing in the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics will have access to an Olympic Village Nursery, I got really excited and thought, “Wow. How cool!”

Then, I started thinking about how long the Olympics have existed, and I started questioning “Why didn't this exist sooner?”

Of course, so much comes into play that really requires a deeper dive into the history and nuances. (I won't be doing that here for sake of time and space.)

One critical fact worth mentioning, however, is that there were hardly any women at the Olympics for a loooooooong time.

Women have had a very minor presence for much of the recent Olympic games on record. The first female athletes, 22 in total, competed in the Paris 1900 Olympic Games. These women represented 2.2% of the 997 total competitors, according to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

“The number of women competing at the Olympic Games has increased significantly – from 34 per cent of the total at Atlanta 1996 to a new record of 48 per cent at Tokyo 2020, and a commitment to reach full gender equality for the Olympic Games Paris 2024.” — per the IOC article (linked above) on Gender Equality Through Time

In light of this, what do you think about the first Olympic Village Nursery? Do you think the Paris 2024 Summer Games will be the first time in Olympic history where there will be equal amounts of men and women competing?

I am really curious to hear your thoughts! Feel free to email me back and share. = )

A MANTRA TO HELP YOU FIND COURAGE

Before I ever heard about such things as ‘mantras,’ I used a specific phrase to give myself the (many-times) needed push to do something new, scary, and outside my comfort zone.

It is: "You Already Have a No, But You Could Have a YES!"

What we often don't realize when we consider new possibilities and opportunities is that we already have ‘the NO.’ If we do nothing… we don't take action, we don't talk to anyone, we don't send any messages, we are already experiencing the no.

So automatically, if you take courageous action in any way — and you do NOT wait for perfection, planning, and so on — you are infinitely more likely to get to your “YES!”

This is the most magical thing about this phrase. It can lead you to possibilities that you may not have considered, dared to dream up, or believed would happen.

It tips the scales, and it allows you to be more optimistic and more gentle with your approach when you're doing something new and being brave.

PODCASTS I’M LISTENING TO: Vanessa Van Edwards on “The School of Greatness” Podcast

Out of the likely hundreds of podcasts I have listened to at this point, one of the most fascinating and also most applicable episodes was with Lewis Howes and his guest, Vanessa Van Edwards.

She is an expert at helping people be more successful and charismatic. She has a shocking amount of research that she mentions to back up everything she says, plus actual tips for how you can do it in your own life!!

Because I come from a communications and also adult education background, the fact that she can say everything so clearly and she shares HOW we can improve ourselves literally makes me so happy!! = )

One part that really fascinated me is the idea of needing to have equal amounts of warmth and competence to be charismatic. This also means we can learn to be charismatic! I always thought this was something you were either born with or you weren’t.

Magical, right!?!

About “Women with Cool Jobs”

The “Women with Cool Jobs” Podcast started because I (Julie Berman) have always been really curious about the work that people do — not just in knowing the basics like your title, at ABC company, in XYZ industry — but in going DEEP. I want to know the nitty, gritty details and hear the stories of these incredible, inspiring women!

The cool (and ironic) thing about all this is that I ended up creating my OWN cool job all because I'm interested in women and THEIR cool jobs. It’s crazy how things happen.

It’s Only The Beginning…
